Victory Ironman 70.3 Kraichgau
I am really happy to take the victory at the traditional IRONMAN 70.3 Kraichgau.
The region is the home of the World Champions Sebastian Kienle and Thomas Hellriegel and the 40.000 spectators out there are very crazy about Triathlon which created a very special and unique race atmosphere.
Weeks before I prepared the race quite particular and trained several times on the race course to get to know every edge and corner. Two weeks after my last race IRONMAN 70.3 in St. Pölten I felt good recovered and ready to race.
With a small but very strong pro athlete field ( 4 of them are top ten of the world) I expected a tough day and close fight for the podium. I had a very good start and took the lead together with the Olympic participant and strong swimmer Ricarda Lisk. We exited the lake side by side and were chased by another strong athlete.
By a quick transition I took the chance to put a gap between me and the other two ladies. I was very concentrated on the bike course to keep the speed high despite some technical curves.
On the last 30 kilometers the bike course was getting tougher even though II was able to put an additional 1 minute to my 2:30-minute margin on the strong biker Yvonne Van Vlerken and the other two followers. I was happy to achieve the fastest bike split of the day. With a lead of 3:35 minutes to Yvonne I put on my running shoes and started the half marathon. My legs felt quite good although the bike course was quite challenging.
I had a very good run and could extend my lead. My personal best time on the 21k carried me to the finish with in 4:23:07.
It was a very emotional moment on the red carpet to cross the finish line.
